“Month of the Horse” Open House at Fair Winds Farm Scheduled for June 29, 2014

New Brunswick, N.J. (June 19, 2014) – The Equine Science Center at Rutgers University is participating in the upcoming “Month of the Horse” Open House event at Fair Winds Farm in Cream Ridge, NJ. This free event, organized and sponsored by the New Jersey Equine Advisory Board (EAB), is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM and is open to the public.

The Open House will include a tour of the Hogan Equine medical facility led by internationally-renowned equine surgeon, Patricia Hogan, VMD, Diplomate, ACVS. Hogan Equine is located on Fair Winds Farm, a 600 acre Standardbred breeding farm, which is owned and operated by EAB member, Mark Mullen.

Featured at the Open House will be educational information about horses and the horse industry from the Rutgers Equine Science Center. Center will also present Equine Science 4 Kids, the interactive youth web portal on its website designed for horse crazy kids of all ages.

“Although we celebrate horses year-round at the Equine Science Center, this is exactly the type of community event equine enthusiasts should have marked on their calendars during the ‘Month of the Horse,’” said Karyn Malinowski, director of the Center. “The EAB, Mark, Patty, and the Center have made major contributions to the horse industry in New Jersey and we are counting on the greater equine community to show its support during this family-friendly event.”

Festivities throughout the day will include additional educational and entertaining stations such as a farrier demonstration as well as a meet & greet with Indy, the retired racehorse.

The event will be held rain or shine and appropriate footwear for a horse farm (closed-toe shoes) is required. For more information about the Open House, please contact Maggi Romano at 732-485-8521. Directions to the event can be found on the Fair Winds Farm website:
