NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 27) – The Rutgers Equine Science Center will host its 2012 Equine Science Update on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The annual event will be held at the Cook Campus Center on the G.H. Cook Campus. Additional event details and directions are available on the homepage of the Equine Science Center website: esc.rutgers.edu The Equine Science Update is an opportunity to unite equine professionals, horse owners, farm owners and stable managers, educators and students, 4-H members, and equine enthusiasts for the purpose of learning about the most up-to-date research initiatives and work being conducted to address horse industry issues and challenge. During the event, the Equine Science Center presents its “Spirit of the Horse” award to a member of the equine community whose life has been profoundly changed because of their involvement with horses and who have acknowledged the impact by giving back to the horse industry. This year, the Center is pleased to announce Linda Toscano as the recipient of the award. In August of this year, Toscano became the first female trainer to win the Hambletonian, the most prestigious race in harness racing. Presentations during the Update will include: ■ Highlights of Center Activity Research, education, and of course, horses, are at the core of everything we do and the Equine Prior to the beginning of Equine Science Update, guests may choose to Meet & Greet the “Horse Heroes” mares beginning at 5:00 pm. Mares in the research herd at the Rutgers Equine Science Center are Horse Heroes because they serve as participants in the varied research initiatives which positively benefit the greater equine community. The Horse Hero Meet & Greet will be held on the stall-side of the Equine Research Facility (the Red Barn) on College Farm Road in New Brunswick. The Equine Science Update will start with dinner at 6:00 pm. After dinner, Katie Washart, 4-H horse project member from Cape May County, will present “Hats, Helmets and Everything in Between”. The Equine Science Update presentation and Horse Hero Meet & Greet require reservations, which can be made by emailing Tiffany Cody at cody@njaes.rutgers.edu or calling (848) 932-9419. The fee for the Equine Science Update, which includes dinner, is $25 for adults and $10 for students.
