To Our Equine Enthusiast Family,
While all of us continue to #StayHome to prevent the spread of the virus, we hope that everyone is staying safe, staying well, and staying engaged. This week’s feel good story coming out of Rutgers is how “GSAPP provides mental health and autism support services to the community amidst the pandemic.” Take a look at the article to see how the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology is making a difference.
As we continue our “Keeping Engaged While Keeping Safe” initiative, this week we will explore horse riding safety. As we get ready to exercise our horses (while remaining physically distant from others) let’s make sure that we do it safely!
For this week’s theme, we will focus on Getting Back In The Saddle:
Fact Sheets: Trail Riding Etiquette for Horse Enthusiasts; Mounting, Dismounting, and Riding Horses Safely; and Saddling and Bridling Horses Safely
Extension Horses Riding Safety: Safety Guidelines for Horseback Riding on the Trails
University of Kentucky “Saddle Up Safety” Program: Program Publications
For the Kids: With the good weather for riding, also comes the return of flies. So as you start to ride, also think about ways to keep those Pesky Flies away from your horse!
As always, our equine experts are available to help. For any riding safety questions, or questions in general, please feel free to visit our Ask The Expert Portal. Here you can submit a question at the bottom of the page, and one of our Experts will respond directly to you.
We hope that our last installment has kept you busy, and know that you enjoy this one! We look forward to seeing you back on our website next week!
Best,
The Equine Science Center
