It’s one of my favorite times of the year! This February is the annual horse management seminar! All of my best two legged friends are going to be there to teach you about gastrointestinal (GI) health. It is on Sunday, February 11th from 8:30am-3:30pm in the Cook Student Center. With it being the winter season, I see most of my four-legged friends bundled up in SO many blankets! I can tell they definitely don’t have as much fun as me playing in the snow with all those layers on. Today I asked my friend “Hugme Christi” why she was wearing so many layers instead of growing out her fuzzy winter coat and she jokingly replied, “My mom is cold!”
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!! It’s the time when everyone indulges on sweet yummy cookies. If you didn’t know, I am the designated cookie tester for my pals at the Equine Science Center. I take my job very seriously…it’s my responsibility to rule out which treats taste great and which ones are gross. I’ve tried a couple of homemade recipes this year, and wanted to be sure to share the ones that ALL of my four legged friends can celebrate with this holiday season!
Fall is in full swing! There is a chill in the air and soon the smell of turkey and pumpkin pie will be filling your family kitchen. But as you prepare to sit down to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, you need to also keep in mind what your four-legged family members might be munching on out in the pasture!
It has been a little over a month since school first started, and I have not been feeling the best. I think it is because I am still stressed and adjusting to the kids going back to school. I’ve noticed my appetite has decreased and my stomach has been in a lot of pain. My owner noticed and called the veterinarian out to the barn to perform an endoscopy.
I want to invite you to one of my favorite events during the fall season!! Freehold Raceway will be hosting the 6th annual Open Space Pace Festival of Horses on Saturday, September 16th!! The Open Space Pace is an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting our open land in New Jersey.
WHOA! Hold up! I can’t believe summer is over and it is already September! All of the wonderful kids that groom me during the day are going back to school; I sure am going to miss them. School can put a lot of stress on my human friends! Have you ever had the feeling of butterflies in your stomach?
I hope everyone is staying cool and hydrated despite this summer heat! My human friends are making sure I have access to shade and water, although sometimes I wish I could pull the hose out of the water trough while it is filling and spray myself down!
My first job at Rutgers University was on mounted patrol. I also carried the Scarlet Knight mascot at football games. One day I became famous when I got excited, stepped onto the field and became the only horse in history to receive a penalty in a football game! And I’m curious and mischievous! I love to be outside, so don’t ever leave my stall door open. I love all kinds of food – just about nothing at a picnic is safe. I also don’t like cheese puffs. That cheetah on the bag scares me to death! After 22 years on mounted patrol, I’m proud to be back, working for the Rutgers Equine Science Center and telling everyone what I know.
