I am excited to bring you the next installment in my Back-to-School series. This week we’ll visit with Francesca Buchalski, an undergraduate student in the Department of Animal Science here at Rutgers University. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be very impressed with Francesca and her dedication. Can you guess the best part, though? Francesca is one of the students who works with us here at the Equine Science Center. She always remembers to bring in some doughnuts for me, so of course, she is one of my favorite students!
Take a look at the video of Francesca’s interview to gain some insights into life as an undergraduate student. In addition to pursuing coursework which provides her with a firm foundation of knowledge and skills, Francesca has participated in a variety of extracurricular activities. Maybe you’ll gather some ideas on what clubs and activities you’ll want to participate in as a student at Rutgers or another college or university.
Did you listen to the entire interview? I certainly hope so because one of the best stories occurs near the end of the interview. I’m amazed by these students who travel to another country! Francesca’s trip to Belize sounds like a once in a lifetime experience. If you’re interested in learning more about her trip, you can read the article in our recent newsletter.
Hopefully, you’ve picked up on some of the common themes running through Jen’s interview and Francesca’s interview. Both of them discuss how important STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) has been in their education. If you enjoy these fields of study, Animal Science may be a great fit for you. If you know you are interested in Animal Science, then you should make sure you take every opportunity to learn more in the STEM fields. You never know when the information might come in handy!
I hope you’re enjoying the glimpse into the lives of our students. We still have one more installment in this series! Next week, we’ll visit with a veterinary student. I’m sure many of you have thought about going to vet school and dream of becoming a veterinarian one day. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about vet school and what it’s like to be a vet student!
Until next time!
Your Friend,
Lord Nelson
