FARM AND LAND MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP TO BE HELD

AT THE RUTGERS EQUINE SCIENCE CENTER

RYDERS LANE BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES HORSE FARM

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 2, 2009) – New Brunswick, N.J. – The Rutgers University Equine Science Center is pleased to present the Farm and Land Management Workshop at the newly developed Ryders Lane Best Management Practices Demonstration Farm on Friday, October 16 from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm.

The workshop will feature discussions and best management practice demonstrations led by several Rutgers University faculty members. Topics include: manure storage and research; biofiltration swales, paddock draining systems and rain gardens; fencing and rotational grazing; and composting.  At the end of the workshop, attendees are invited to an optional tour of the Young Horse Teaching and Research Program.

The Farm and Land Management Workshop is being organized by Dr. Carey Williams, Extension Specialist in Equine Management at Rutgers Cooperative Extension. “The Farm and Land Management Workshop is a great learning opportunity for horse farm owners and stable managers, as well as for equine enthusiasts,” says Williams. “Addressing the environmental impact of farm management and issues has been a multi-year undertaking by a team of researchers at Rutgers as well as collaboration from several state and federal agencies. Our goal with hosting the Farm and Land Management Workshop is to demonstrate best management practices which are cost effective and easy to implement.”
