FARM AND LAND MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP TO BE HELD
AT THE RUTGERS EQUINE SCIENCE CENTER
RYDERS LANE BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES HORSE FARM
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 2, 2009) – New Brunswick, N.J. – The Rutgers
University Equine Science Center is pleased to present the Farm and Land
Management Workshop at the newly developed Ryders Lane Best Management
Practices Demonstration Farm on Friday, October 16 from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. The workshop will feature discussions and
best management practice demonstrations led by several Rutgers University
faculty members. Topics include: manure storage and research; biofiltration
swales, paddock draining systems and rain gardens; fencing and rotational
grazing; and composting. At the end of the workshop, attendees are invited
to an optional tour of the Young Horse Teaching and Research Program.
The
Farm and Land Management Workshop is being organized by Dr. Carey Williams, Extension Specialist in Equine
Management at Rutgers Cooperative Extension. “The Farm and Land Management
Workshop is a great learning opportunity for horse farm owners and stable
managers, as well as for equine enthusiasts,” says Williams. “Addressing
the environmental impact of farm management and issues has been a multi-year
undertaking by a team of researchers at Rutgers as well as collaboration
from several state and federal agencies. Our goal with hosting the Farm and
Land Management Workshop is to demonstrate best management practices which
are cost effective and easy to implement.”
